Social media company Sulake, which operates Habbo, opted to use Immutable X as its nonfungible token (NFT) solution. The company intends to achieve gas-free NFT trading and minting, as well as carbon-neutrality, by using Immutable X.
Introduction to Habbo
Habbo (formerly known as Habbo Hotel) is an early metaverse that predates modern virtual communities by a considerable amount of time. Originally launched in 2000, it operated as a combination of a chat room and a virtual hangout.
The vast majority of players in the mid-2000s were young adults, but as the years have gone by, the demographic has likewise aged up. Today’s mainstream Habbo users are more likely to be early twenties than early tweens. This places Habbo’s over 500,000 active monthly users into the main age range for NFT interest.
Immutable X Partnership
Choosing Immutable X was not Habbo’s first step toward NFTs. Integration with NFTs has been available in the game, which is built around creating personal avatars and hotel rooms with in-game items, since September 2021. Over 10,000 randomly generated NFTs were released by Habbo, which sold out in just over a day. The giveaway was followed by 1,000 free NFT avatars for active players.

It is logical that the game should utilize Immutable X. With Layer 2 NFT scaling, a variety of desirable features are provided. Among these are increased transaction security and no transaction fees.
Carbon neutral NFTs
Through a number of climate conscious partners, Immutable X is striving to offset any carbon footprint created.
That’s definitely a big selling point, especially considering NFTs on Ethereum can produce a great deal of carbon emissions. Selling one NFT on Ethereum can easily consume lots of energy.
“The sheer scale of Habbo means a completely scalable and carbon-neutral solution was crucial to this partnership. Habbo has been empowering digital ownership since 2000,” says Immutable co-founder Robbie Ferguson. “We are thrilled to help them continue their two-decade commitment to player empowerment as they transition to their Web3 grand-plan, with Immutable’s highly secure, carbon-neutral scaling platform.”
